A strong Children’s Heart Center, skilled experts and a $180 million expansion under construction brought Dr. William Moskowitz to Children’s of Mississippi as its new chief of pediatric cardiology.

The School of Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences is increasing its efforts to recruit the best and brightest upcoming biomedical scientists by inviting their advisors to UMMC to learn more about the school’s Ph.D. programs.

The clinic at Johnson Elementary School, the School of Nursing’s oldest school-based clinic in the Jackson district, is turning 20 this year, while the SON’s newest clinic, at Galloway Elementary, opened last week. All told, more than 2,000 district students are getting easy access to primary care and education on wellness at three locations.

Several interesting events are scheduled for the upcoming weeks at the Medical Center.

The American Cancer Society has presented its St. George National Award to the UMMC Cancer Institute director; the American Heart Association has selected a UMMC professor of physiology and biophysics to receive its Dustan Award for outstanding contributions to hypertension by a female scientist; and the Mississippi Association for Institutional Research has listed a UMMC associate professor of health sciences as its 'Unsung Hero' for 2018.
